Yes the Führer decided that he would rule the world with words. “I will never fire a gun, I will not have to”. “

Marcus Zusak’s has shown the power of words in various ways throughout “the book theif”. The quote above came form the part of “the book thief” that was inside Maxes book to Liesel. In that he wrote “I will never fire a gun, I will not have to” as if the Führer had said that himself. Just by Zusak creating this quote and making Max the Jewish character say it is powerful in it self. Its saying, all the Führer needed was words to destroy people and places, that words were much more lethal than guns.

The injury of words. Yes the brutality of words. Cuts had opened and a series of wounds were rising to the surface of her skin”

This quote was used when Liesel was angry at the mayor’s wife for not needed their ironing to be done anymore. After Liesel heard that, a fire was set ablaze inside of her, and evilness closely followed behind. “the injury of words, yes the brutality of words” the point of the power of words comes through here, as power hurts people. Liesel used words to hurt the mayor’s wife because she herself was hurt by the words of rejection. The author showed that unwanted words can bring out powerful and hurtful words, that can lead to so much change within seconds.

  1. This is good simplification of your structure. You have brought our focus very nicely onto the language effects used by Zusak, and your explanations are clear and well supported with evidence. These are perfect building blocks.

We will want to work now towards developing your ‘academic language’ resources so that you’re able to add more power to your very insightful assertions. We will work on sentence level analytical writing skills as a class.

What I mean by that is that you will want to develop your vocabulary by adding some useful words and phrases that make what you’re trying to say easier to express. Your ideas are great.
