Well Being Speech

INTRODUCTION:

Hi everyone, today I’m going to talking about how you can improve your wellbeing. Many people don’t actually know the definition of wellbeing.

Wellbeing is the experiences of health, happiness, and prosperity. It involves good mental health and high life satisfaction. Many people seek to have good wellbeing as it includes feeling happy, healthy and more connected to your surroundings. The problem is that it can be very hard for some people to create good well being. So today I will be taking you through two of the many practices to improve your well being, hoping you will leave here today with one you could think more about.

MEDITATION:

Meditation is the first one I will be explaining.

There are many different types of meditation that you use like breathing awareness, loving/ kindness meditation and more. But I will be taking you through the process of breathing meditation. * insert the process of meditation *If you would like to participate you are welcome. I’m going to now ask you to sit comfortably in your chair and take a nice big breath. Now spread out your fingers on one hand, then use whatever finger is comfortable on the other hand and start tracing around your fingers. You can either close your eyes or stay focused with your eyes open. I find it’s more relaxing and easy to have your eyes closed. Every time you trace up a finger breathe in and as you trace down your finger breathe out. Trace at a slow pace so you have enough time to fill up your lungs to your comfort. That is basically it, this will help you control any stress and help with being more alert with your surroundings. If in a situation like exams where you feel like your breath is becoming shallow and stress levels increasing. Try out this exercise and see if it help you remain calm. Meditation helps with many parts of mental health, for example, stress relief, anxiety, controlling anger, enhancing self-awareness and many more. All of these things are important to be able to control when it comes to a good well being. Some people don’t find that meditation works which is perfectly fine, but if you focus hard enough it can relax your body and mind.

NUTRITION:

Nutrition is the next one I will be talking about.

Nutrition is important for many reasons such as it helps with increasing energy, improving sleep, having clear skin, helping mental/ emotional health and helps to prevent later in life diseases. Making small differences in what you eat can help majorly, such as changing saturated fat foods like sweets and fatty foods to unsaturated fat foods like vegetables, red meats, and fruit. Eat foods low in salt as your sodium intake can affect how healthy your heart will be in years to come. Eating foods with low or no sugar at all is one of the biggest things to watch, sugar is addictive as many researchers have stated. When we eat sugar it releases dopamine into our brains, this is the same thing cocaine and heroin do. Sugar gives you no real benefits and too much leads to heart disease and blood pressure problems and arthritis in later life, and I’m sure none of you want to experiences these debilitating conditions. What you eat really can affect you mentally and physically, so always try to eat what makes you feel better in the long term and avoid foods that give you short term spikes of energy like sugary foods, pick an apple instead.

CONCLUSION

These are just two of the many aspects of well-being others include the importance of socialising, having opportunities to become more creative, giving time to yourself, making sure you get healthy sleep and not overdosing on technology. Being healthy now is important but even more important is setting yourself up for a healthy and fulfilled life. Remember, good health is your greatest asset in life.
